A suspected serial phone thief, identified as Francis, has been arrested with 17 mobile phones at an APC rally attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other party leaders in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The rally, held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, marked Governor Douye Diri’s defection from the PDP to the APC.
According to Bayelsa Vigilante Service Chairman, Doubiye Alagba, the suspect confessed to travelling from Rivers State to steal at the event. He was caught with 17 phones, ₦91,000, and several ATM cards after being closely monitored by vigilantes.
Alagba said Francis admitted to stealing over ₦400,000 with an accomplice who escaped. The suspect has been handed over to the police for investigation.
The arrest comes weeks after a similar incident in Kaduna, where the state’s Internal Security Commissioner’s phone was stolen during a public event.
