Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has strongly condemned the life imprisonment verdict delivered on Thursday by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Reacting to the judgment, she said the court violated constitutional requirements, alleging that the judge failed to read out the specific written law under which her husband was being tried for terrorism. She also claimed the judge appeared to be reading from a “prepared script” and struggled to pronounce parts of his own judgment.

Uchechi accused Justice James Omotosho of ignoring key legal procedures, including refusing to provide written rulings on important applications and blocking Kanu’s right to submit a final address. She described the entire process as a “travesty of justice.”

Nnamdi Kanu was convicted on all seven terrorism charges brought by the federal government. The court ruled that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence and noted that Kanu declined to open a defence, opting instead to rely on the prosecution’s evidence.

Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, following his arrest in Kenya under circumstances his legal team calls “extraordinary rendition.”
Uchechi maintains that the conviction is unconstitutional, insisting that her husband was forced to enter a plea under a repealed law and denied the opportunity to properly defend himself.
