TIJANI FATAI ASSUMES DUTY AS LAGOS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

Tijani Fatai has officially assumed office as the 42nd Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, taking over from Olohundare Jimoh, who served from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026. The appointment was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi.

A native of Agege Local Government Area, Fatai attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye). He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has held numerous key positions nationwide.

Before his current posting, Fatai served as Commissioner of Police at the Eastern Port Command in Port Harcourt. His previous roles include Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Maritime Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos, and at the Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja. He has also been Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Department of Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

Throughout his career, Fatai has held significant operational and administrative positions, including Area Commander in Ilaro (Ogun State), Maiduguri Metro (Borno State), and Surulere (Lagos State); Squadron Commander of 5 PMF in Benin (Edo State) and 17 PMF in Akure (Ondo State); Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at SCID, Lagos; and Divisional Police Officer in Ogere (Ogun State), Ijanikin, and Alakara (Lagos State). He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Lagos State Police Command highlighted Fatai’s “track record of leadership, professionalism, and dedication,” noting his preparedness to effectively oversee the state command.

The new commissioner pledged to continue ongoing reforms, enhance internal security, strengthen collaboration with other agencies, and foster community partnerships. He also emphasized the commitment to protecting lives and property in line with international best practices.

“The Lagos State Police Command solicits the continued support and cooperation of the public as the new leadership works to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery,” the statement added.
