The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denied claims by the Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-led faction that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are behind the party’s ongoing litigations.
In a statement on Tuesday, the NNPP’s National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, said the disputes and defections within the party are the result of Kwankwaso’s high-handed attempts to take control of the NNPP, not external interference.
The statement responded to interviews by Elder Buba Galadima and his group, who alleged that Tinubu and the APC were sponsoring legal battles to block Kwankwaso from hijacking the party. The NNPP dismissed these claims as “lazy and empty blackmail” with no basis.

“Was it Tinubu that made Kwankwaso, the NNPP 2023 presidential candidate, want to hijack a party that gave him a free ticket to run?” the party asked. “Kwankwaso and his expelled group have continued to go to court to take over the party, causing defections.”
The NNPP described the accusations against Tinubu and the APC as “unfounded, mischievous, and a figment of lazy minds.”
Reaffirming its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, the party urged members who left to return. “All elected members of the NNPP in 2023, who decamped to other parties due to escalating court cases, are being advised to return quickly to our great party,” Olaposi said.
He recalled that the last national convention in Lagos in 2025 granted all elected members automatic tickets in recognition of loyalty. The party also announced it has started e-registration of members under INEC guidelines to strengthen its human and organizational structure ahead of the elections.
The NNPP emphasized its commitment to being a responsible political partner. “NNPP as a political party is not fighting and shall not fight anybody or organisation in the name of politics and power, which we all know belong to God,” the statement concluded.
