The Federal Government has named Dr. John Nwabueze as the country’s first Tax Ombudsman, a move in line with President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s tax and revenue administration system.

Nwabueze, from Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, brings decades of experience from both public service and the private sector. Before his appointment, he served as Managing Partner at a top tax advisory firm, Technical Adviser to the Joint Senate Committees on Finance and the Federal Capital Territory, and also to the Chief Economic Adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He holds a Doctor of Business Administration (Finance) from Walden University in the U.S., a Master’s in Accounting from Strayer University, Washington D.C., and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Mathematics from the University of Jos.

According to the Presidency, the Office of the Tax Ombudsman was established to promote transparency, fairness, and accountability in tax administration. The office will handle complaints related to taxes, levies, customs duties, and other fiscal matters—ensuring impartial dispute resolution and protecting taxpayers from abuse of authority by tax officials.
President Tinubu congratulated Nwabueze and expressed confidence in his ability to perform his duties with integrity and professionalism.
