President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has spoken by phone with Nigerian-British former heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, and his mother following the tragic accident he was involved in.
The accident, which occurred in Ogun State, reportedly claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s associates, while the boxer sustained minor injuries.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu disclosed that he also spoke with the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates. I wished him well and prayed for him. He assured me that he is receiving the best care in the hospital,” the President said.

“I also spoke with AJ’s mother and prayed for her. She was very appreciative of my call,” he added.
Tinubu further stated that Governor Abiodun, who was with Joshua at the hospital, assured him that everything possible would be done to ensure the boxer receives the best medical attention.

The President, who is currently abroad, had earlier expressed deep sympathy for Joshua over the accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, praying for his speedy recovery and the repose of the souls of the deceased.
Anthony Joshua, who recently defeated American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, is known for regularly visiting his home state in Nigeria. The incident has since generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some attributing the accident to alleged overspeeding, while others blamed inadequate emergency response.
