Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says President Bola Tinubu remains calm and focused despite threats by U.S. President Donald Trump over Nigeria’s security situation.

Speaking after a meeting with the President at the State House in Abuja, Idris said Tinubu is committed to making Nigeria safer for all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
“Mr. President is calm. He’s ensuring that the international community understands the efforts we’ve been making to improve security,” Idris said, noting that Tinubu recently appointed new service chiefs to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The minister said the government is engaging both religious leaders and international partners to address concerns and prevent divisions fueled by extremist narratives. He dismissed claims that the Nigerian government supports attacks on any religion, calling such allegations “false and dangerous.”

“Nigeria remains a multi-religious nation where everyone is free to practice their faith. There’s no policy favouring one religion over another,” Idris stated, urging Nigerians to unite rather than allow divisive rhetoric to destabilize the country.
Trump had on Saturday threatened military action against Nigeria, claiming Christians were under attack. He reiterated the warning aboard Air Force One on Sunday, saying U.S. strikes “could be” considered if killings continue — comments that have triggered strong political and diplomatic reactions.
