President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed that his administration views education as a primary tool for reducing poverty and fostering a prosperous future for Nigerian youths. He made this statement on Monday while receiving the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In a statement released by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized that the government’s reform agenda focuses on equipping young Nigerians with skills that can compete on a global scale. “Our goal is to use education to drive down poverty,” the President said during the meeting.

The discussions also highlighted preparations for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award events scheduled to take place in Lagos. Tinubu stressed that Nigeria’s participation in the upcoming G-20 meeting would focus on youth development. “The central issue is about our youth. We need to strengthen the economy for our youth,” he said.

The President highlighted the establishment of a special education loan fund as a critical step toward inclusive access to higher education. “The fund ensures that students admitted to universities can stay in school and complete their education,” he added.
Prince Edward was accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Sir Richard Montgomery. Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, was also present. State House photographs captured moments from the engagement, showing the leaders in discussion.

In related economic news, the UK-Nigeria bilateral trade relationship recently hit a milestone, valued at £7.2 billion. Dr. Richard Montgomery described the trade partnership as “vibrant, enduring, and multifaceted,” highlighting the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
