Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho has publicly declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office. In a video shared with SaharaReporters, Igboho said: “President Tinubu for a second term. We don’t want any Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar here.”
He added that even after Tinubu completes his eight-year tenure, efforts would be made to urge him to continue as president. “Even after Bola Tinubu completes his eight years in office, we will still beg him to continue,” Igboho stated. He also warned that discussions about former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi should not be brought to Southwest Nigeria, insisting that Tinubu “owns” the region.

However, the Yoruba Union, also known as Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has publicly distanced itself from Igboho over his alleged APC endorsement. The union emphasized that the struggle for Yoruba emancipation could not be compromised for political interests.
In a statement signed by Convener Olusola Badero and released through Home Director Princess Balogun, the group clarified that it had received many inquiries from Yoruba people at home and abroad about its stance. “We unequivocally distance ourselves from Sunday Igboho’s selfish act of abandoning Yoruba Nation agitation to come out publicly to campaign for APC and its agent, whose policies have pushed millions of our people into poverty and economic hardship while insecurity has taken centre stage,” the statement read.
The union reiterated that the agitation for Yoruba sovereignty has always been grounded in sacrifice and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people, noting that many have paid a high price in pursuit of this struggle.
