President Bola Tinubu and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany, with a focus on enhanced cooperation in security, power infrastructure, and railway development.

The agreement was reached during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, during which both leaders also expressed interest in expanding collaboration in the creative arts and skills development.

During the discussion, President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s power transmission needs under the Presidential Power Initiative and indicated the country would require technical and financial support. In response, Chancellor Merz assured that Siemens was prepared to provide technical assistance, while Deutsche Bank expressed readiness to finance the project.
The two leaders also shared concerns about growing insecurity in the Sahel region. President Tinubu called for support in intelligence and reconnaissance efforts, including the provision of used helicopters to strengthen surveillance and security operations across the corridor.

Chancellor Merz welcomed the expected arrival of Nigeria’s new ambassador to Germany and underscored the importance of cultural cooperation. He also proposed the establishment of a Great Museum of African Arts as part of efforts to deepen cultural ties between both countries.
The conversation reflects a renewed commitment by Nigeria and Germany to expand strategic partnerships across key sectors critical to development, security, and cultural exchange.
