Tinubu Gives 200 Ex-corps Members Automatic Jobs, N50m and PhD Scholarships

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate employment of 200 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the Federal Civil Service in recognition of their outstanding performance during the 2020–2023 service years.

Each of the awardees will also receive a cash reward of ₦250,000 and a postgraduate scholarship up to PhD level at any Nigerian university. Ten physically challenged ex-corps members, who sustained injuries during their service, were also offered federal jobs and included among the scholarship beneficiaries.

Representing the President at the combined 2020–2023 President’s NYSC Honours Award ceremony in Abuja, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, praised the honorees for their discipline, patriotism, and selflessness. She conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation for their exceptional service.

Commending the courage of the physically challenged awardees, President Tinubu stated:

We will never forget their sacrifice.”

He assured that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission would begin the employment process immediately.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, President Tinubu emphasized ongoing government efforts across education, skill development, and technology to position young people at the forefront of national progress.

Top performers from different NYSC batches and states were specially recognized. Among the male honorees were Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (20B, Adamawa/Kwara), Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (21A, Imo/Cross River), Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (23B, Abia/Cross River), and Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (23C, Osun/Rivers). Female recipients included Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (21A, Benue/Gombe) and Igwe Anne Chikaodi (23C, Enugu/Sokoto).

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, applauded the awardees and commended President Tinubu for his unwavering support of Nigerian youth.

These honourees represent the best of what Nigerian youth can achieve,” he said, calling them role models for their peers nationwide.

He also highlighted the recent increase in the NYSC monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 as a direct response to current economic challenges, noting it was a policy-driven intervention rather than a political move.

NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Y.D. Olakunle Nafiu, described Nigerian youth as a driving force in preserving the country’s cultural and national values. He praised the government’s youth-centered policies and said the allowance increment had significantly boosted morale and dedication among corps members.
