President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Air Vice Marshal (retd.) Saddiq Ismaila Kaita as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
Kaita takes over from Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the former Kano APC governorship candidate and current Chairman of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
The announcement was made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who explained that the leadership change was to allow Gawuna to focus fully on his duties at the FHA.
Before his retirement, AVM Kaita served in several strategic roles within the Nigerian Air Force, including Director of Strategy at the Defence Headquarters and Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation.
He is widely respected for his contributions to military training, standardisation, and institutional development.
In his new role at BUK, Kaita is expected to bring his wealth of experience in strategic planning and leadership to strengthen the university’s governance and academic excellence.
