Rousing Welcome in Anambra: Tinubu Receives Traditional Title and 2027 Endorsement from APGA

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was accorded a hero’s welcome in Anambra State this week, during an official visit that has sparked political ripples across Nigeria’s southeast. The President was not only celebrated with cultural fanfare but also conferred a prestigious traditional title by the Anambra Council of Traditional Rulers.
The visit reached its peak when the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the dominant political party in Anambra, publicly endorsed President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential elections, signaling a potential realignment in regional political loyalties.
A Presidential Visit Rooted in Symbolism and Strategy
Tinubu’s tour of Anambra State included meetings with traditional rulers, business leaders, and state officials. He commissioned major infrastructure projects and pledged increased federal support for economic development in the Southeast. At the centre of his visit was the message of national unity, inclusivity, and development.
“Nigeria cannot move forward if any region is left behind. The Southeast is vital to our national development vision,” Tinubu told a gathering in Awka.
The President was received by a delegation led by Governor Charles Soludo, who praised Tinubu’s economic reforms and emphasized the importance of deepening federal-state cooperation.
Traditional Honour and Cultural Recognition
In a colourful ceremony steeped in Igbo tradition, Tinubu was conferred the title of “Dike Di Ora Nma” (The Hero Beloved by the People). The event brought together traditional rulers, Igbo leaders, and community organizations in a show of cultural unity.
“This title is a recognition of your efforts to unify Nigeria and address historic imbalances,” said HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe, Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council.
APGA’s 2027 Endorsement: A Political Milestone
In a move that surprised many analysts, the APGA leadership declared its support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, praising his courage in economic reform and inclusive federal appointments.
“We believe in continuity for progress. President Tinubu has taken bold steps where others hesitated,” said APGA Chairman, Chief Edward Okonkwo. “We hereby endorse him for 2027.”
This marks a significant moment in Southeast politics, traditionally dominated by opposition leanings in federal elections. Analysts say the endorsement could reshape national political dynamics ahead of the next cycle.
A Strategic Southeast Pivot
The visit and endorsement may signal Tinubu’s deeper strategy to secure wider national appeal across historically opposition-leaning zones. By embracing cultural honour and expanding political alliances, the President appears to be building bridges ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 race.
“Tinubu understands that legitimacy in Nigeria comes not just from votes, but from symbolic embrace across regions,” said political analyst Ifeanyi Onwuegbule.
