Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will soon perform the groundbreaking ceremony for what will become the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factory. The facility will be located within the Special Agro Processing Zone at the Gateway International Airport, in the Iperu/Ilisan area of the state.
Governor Abiodun made the disclosure while receiving the former Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, alongside members of the Iperu Development Association, at his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta.

According to the governor, the factory is a key project under the “Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative” and will occupy 400 hectares of land, providing daily employment for approximately 250,000 people.
“In the next 30 to 45 days, Mr. President will officially launch the Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative. This factory, which will be the largest of its kind globally, was strategically sited here due to our infrastructure, including the airport, proximity to markets, and central access to raw materials,” he said.
The governor described the project as transformative, noting that its economic impact would extend far beyond Iperu, benefiting Remoland, Ijebu land, and the entire state. Site clearing is currently underway.
Governor Abiodun also shared that the Nigerian Air Force plans to establish a base in the area to provide security for both the airport and surrounding communities.
Explaining the choice of Iperu for the airport and related developments, he noted the town’s central location and accessibility. He added that his administration would soon commission 100 housing units at the Airport Housing Estate, and highlighted infrastructure improvements including the reconstruction of major roads, public school renovations, and a new mother-and-child hospital.

He praised Mrs. Madein for her distinguished service and for contributing significantly to community development, including the facilitation of a women’s empowerment center, a mini stadium, and an erosion control project.
“You started humbly here in Iperu, rose through the ranks with hard work and discipline, and served the country with integrity. You’ve made us proud and shown that gender should never be a barrier to excellence,” he said.
In her remarks, Mrs. Madein thanked the governor for fostering a business-friendly environment that has attracted major investments to the state. She said her visit was to report on her tenure and express appreciation for the governor’s support.

“I’ve done my best to represent Ogun State and contribute to national progress,” she stated.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Iperu Development Association, Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo, said both the governor and Mrs. Madein have played key roles in the town’s development.
The Ebi of Idena, Oba Lukman Salami, also commended the governor, noting that Iperu has evolved from a rural village into a modern town under his administration.
