President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed newly appointed service chiefs to decisively end terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality across Nigeria, stressing that Nigerians expect results, not excuses.

Speaking at the State House, Abuja, during the decoration of the service chiefs with their new ranks, Tinubu urged them to act with patriotism, innovation, and courage. “We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer. Stay ahead of those who threaten our peace and use technology where necessary,” he said.
The president warned against the resurgence of armed groups in parts of the North and South, charging the military to “smash the new snakes at the head.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the armed forces, emphasizing that national security is vital to development.
Tinubu praised the military’s sacrifices, noting that their efforts have reclaimed territories and reduced terrorist influence. He urged the service chiefs to work as a team and collaborate with other security agencies to permanently end insecurity.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede thanked the president for his confidence and pledged absolute loyalty to the government and the Nigerian people. He called for citizens’ support, noting that “security is everyone’s responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has approved a major shake-up in the army, redeploying top generals and senior officers to strengthen command structures and boost operational efficiency nationwide.
