#Tinubu Urges Adherence to Rule of Law as Fubara Seeks Truce with Pro-Wike Lawmakers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on political stakeholders in Rivers State to respect the rule of law to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.

During a meeting with South-South leaders under the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that judicial rulings must be upheld, particularly in light of the Supreme Court’s decision reinstating 27 pro-Wike lawmakers and nullifying the 2023 local government elections in the state.

“I have total confidence in the judiciary. Once the court has spoken, that is it,” Tinubu stated. He urged Niger Delta leaders to return home and ensure compliance with the court’s ruling, stressing that Rivers State’s political stability is crucial to national development.

The President revealed that he had foreseen the crisis and brokered a written agreement between the warring factions before it escalated.

Meanwhile, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is reportedly considering a fresh invitation to the reinstated pro-Wike lawmakers after they rejected an initial meeting request. The lawmakers, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, dismissed the invitation, citing improper communication.

Despite political tensions, Fubara has pledged full implementation of the Supreme Court ruling, stating that his administration prioritizes the welfare of Rivers people over personal interests.

Amid fears of impeachment threats, pro-Fubara groups have warned against any attempt to remove the governor, insisting that such moves could trigger unrest.

With political uncertainty looming, calls for unity and cooperation continue to grow as Rivers State navigates its unfolding crisis.
