President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging stronger efforts to tackle insecurity and banditry in the North West.

The event took place in Gusau, where the president, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, addressed a large gathering of supporters. He expressed sympathy for victims of banditry and kidnapping, stressing that both federal and state authorities would intensify security operations to restore peace in the region.

Governor Lawal, who was previously elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier announced his defection, citing ongoing internal challenges within the opposition party.

During the ceremony, the president noted that Lawal’s move to the APC would improve collaboration with security agencies and strengthen the fight against banditry, particularly in Zamfara State.
He also acknowledged the support of former state leaders, including Ahmed Yerima, Mahmuda Shinkafi, Abdulaziz Yari, and Bello Matawalle, for backing efforts to address insecurity in the state.

The APC leadership, led by National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, officially presented the party flag to Governor Lawal and assured him of full support moving forward.
The president also expressed confidence in the party’s unity and strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
