Fresh details have emerged about the sudden illness of Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, who reportedly collapsed on the eve of his scheduled trip to Washington, D.C., for the World Bank Fall Meetings.
According to credible sources, Edun’s illness was not caused by a medical condition, but by a shocking security revelation that left him deeply shaken.

“The minister reportedly became distressed after being shown a kill list containing his name,” one source said.
The alleged list was said to have been linked to a group of military officers accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
While officials initially denied that Edun had been flown abroad for treatment, he was later seen in London, confirming reports of his overseas medical trip.

“He collapsed after seeing the list but has since been recovering,” another insider disclosed, adding that he was later sighted walking unsteadily at an art event in London.
Earlier this month, Edun confirmed that he had travelled to the United Kingdom for medical attention following reports of a serious health scare.

The revelation comes amid ongoing investigations into an alleged coup plot involving several senior military officers. One of those detained by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has been identified as Lieutenant Commander B. Abdullahi of the Nigerian Navy.
Reports indicate that a group of officers, led by an Army Brigadier General, were arrested for allegedly planning to stage a coup on October 1st, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

Although the Nigerian Army has denied the coup allegations—claiming the detentions were related to repeated failures in promotion examinations and disciplinary matters—multiple security sources suggest the arrests were tied to plans to destabilize the government.
It was gathered that the officers, drawn from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, were apprehended in coordinated operations following weeks of surveillance by military intelligence operatives.
The development has reignited public concern over growing internal divisions within the military and renewed debates about political stability in Nigeria.
