#Tragedy in Katsina: Three Dead, One Hospitalised After Suspected Food Poisoning

A tragic incident has claimed the lives of three people, with one other person currently hospitalised, following a suspected case of food poisoning in the Magama Jibia area of Katsina State.

The disturbing development was revealed on Thursday by security and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to Makama, the victims—Hussaina Ayuba, Ahmed Ayuba, and Nana Ayuba—fell ill after eating a meal of spaghetti and were rushed to the Jibia General Hospital, where they later died despite medical efforts to save them.

A fourth victim, 12-year-old Hafsat Ayuba, survived and is currently receiving treatment and recovering under close medical supervision.

Makama further disclosed that a 20-year-old woman, identified as Fatima Abdulkadir, who allegedly prepared the meal, has been arrested by authorities along with two other suspects in connection with the incident.

“The victims—Hussaina, Ahmed, and Nana Ayuba—died after allegedly consuming poisoned food. A 12-year-old girl, Hafsat Ayuba, is still undergoing treatment. The woman who prepared the food, along with two others, has been arrested,” Makama wrote.

He added that the police had visited the scene and begun investigations into the cause of the poisoning.

“The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families for burial according to Islamic rites,” he added.

As of the time of reporting, the Katsina State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident.
