TRAMADOL EMPIRE BUSTED: NDLEA SEIZES ₦16.9BN DRUG HAUL IN LAGOS MEGA RAID

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered three major drug warehouses hidden inside a residential estate in the Okota area of Lagos State, seizing illicit substances valued at an estimated ₦16.9 billion.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA said the operation led to the discovery of large quantities of narcotics carefully stored within two buildings in Park View Estate, Ago Palace Way.

According to the agency, the raid took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 98 Olukayode Awofisayo Street and 5 Charles Ndumetu Street. Operatives recovered about 2,360,000 tablets of high-dose tramadol (225mg) and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup concealed across the properties.

The NDLEA disclosed that the seized items included 19,094 cartons of codeine syrup and 34 cartons of tramadol, describing the operation as intelligence-driven and carefully executed.

In a related development, the agency also carried out a large-scale operation in Kano State under the code name “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” leading to the arrest of 52 suspects across multiple drug hotspots in the city.

According to the Kano Strategic Command, the crackdown began on April 27, 2026, targeting more than 20 identified locations linked to drug activities.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said the first phase of the operation led to 15 arrests in areas such as Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre.

Further raids on April 28 extended to Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Yankaba, and other locations, resulting in 16 additional arrests, including three women. A final sweep in Kwanar Ungogo, Tudun Bojuwa, and Sabon Gari brought the total to 52 suspects.

The agency also said assorted drugs, paraphernalia, and locally made weapons were recovered during the operations.

Speaking on the crackdown, Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, CN DY Lawal, said the agency remains committed to dismantling drug networks and restoring order in affected communities.

“We will continue to dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and ensure affected premises are secured until normalcy is restored,” he said.
