Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI successfully thwarted multiple coordinated attacks by ISWAP terrorists targeting military positions in Delwa, Goniri, Kukawa, Mainok, and a troop base in the Sambisa Forest.

The assaults took place overnight between March 8 and 9, 2026, with terrorists attempting to overwhelm the military from several directions simultaneously. Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the JTF, confirmed the successful defence in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, the troops coordinated their actions effectively, supported by reinforcements and the air component of Operation HADIN KAI, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties. During the operations, soldiers recovered weapons and equipment abandoned by the terrorists, including two PKT machine guns, six AK-47 rifles, eight RPGs, four mortar bombs, and various ammunition.

While some defensive perimeters at Goniri and Kukawa were briefly breached, and certain base structures and vehicles were damaged, all positions remain firmly under military control. Follow-up operations are ongoing in nearby communities where wounded insurgents sought refuge.

The army also confirmed that some soldiers, including a notable officer in Kukawa, were killed defending the nation and protecting civilians. The statement praised their bravery and affirmed that their sacrifice would inspire ongoing operations against terrorism in the North East.

Troops remain vigilant and committed to sustaining relentless operations to deny insurgents freedom of movement and ensure lasting security in the region. This success adds to previous operations targeting ISWAP and Boko Haram hideouts in the Sambisa Forest and surrounding areas.
