Two people were run over to death by a truck on Friday evening along the Dangote-Ibeshe road in the Yewa North local government area in Ogun.
Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) spokesman Babatunde Akinbiyi confirmed the incident to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Akinbiyi, citing eyewitnesses, said the driver of the truck drove recklessly, left his lane and faced the motorcycle, crushing the biker and his passenger to death.
He said: “Later an angry mob set the Dangote truck on fire as the driver fled.
“The case is being handled by the Dangote factory police station,” he said.
He noted that it took the intervention of the police and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to calm the nerves and the situation.
The TRACE spokesperson added that one of the deceased was dropped off at the morgue at Ilaro General Hospital, while the other victim was buried by family members.
He sympathized with the family of the deceased victims, while urging truck drivers to resist the temptation of reckless and dangerous driving and to consider other road users. (NAA)
