U.S. President Donald Trump met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Sunday as part of an intensified diplomatic effort to end the war in Ukraine. Trump said talks were moving closer to a potential agreement, though he acknowledged that “one or two very thorny issues” remain unresolved.

Following the meeting, Trump also held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said another conversation with the Russian leader is expected. Any peace deal, Trump noted, would require Putin’s approval, with U.S., Ukrainian and European negotiators set to continue discussions in the coming weeks.

The talks come amid continued fighting in Ukraine. Russia recently launched its longest sustained assault of the year on Kyiv, killing civilians, injuring dozens and damaging energy infrastructure, leaving many residents without heating in freezing conditions.

Zelensky said discussions focused on a 20-point peace plan, emphasizing the importance of sequencing and strategy in reaching a settlement. While Trump expressed confidence that progress has been made, he warned negotiations remain complex and could still fall apart.
