The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has held high-level discussions with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s forthcoming state visit to Türkiye.
The talks focused on deepening bilateral relations, with emphasis on political engagement, economic cooperation, security collaboration, and multilateral partnerships between Nigeria and Türkiye.
In a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, media aide to the foreign affairs minister, Fidan praised Nigeria’s role in fostering regional stability, peace, and prosperity in West Africa, noting the country’s leadership position within regional and continental institutions.
Tuggar, in his remarks, underscored the importance of expanding bilateral trade and increasing mutual investment, particularly in areas of interest to Turkish businesses such as construction, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure development.
Both ministers acknowledged the steady growth in economic relations between the two countries and stressed the need to unlock additional opportunities through structured engagement between the public and private sectors.
On security matters, the discussions explored avenues for enhanced cooperation in military affairs and the defence industry, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening strategic collaboration.
The statement noted that the engagement reflects the growing strategic depth of Nigeria–Türkiye relations, built on shared values of sovereignty, institutional cooperation, and pragmatic partnership, with both countries expressing optimism about broader collaboration in the coming years.
