Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Tanimu Turaki says the party has not received any official notice from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke about resigning from the party.
Speaking after the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Turaki said the only resignation letter seen so far was circulated on social media and has not been formally submitted. He added that Adeleke remains listed as an aspirant in the ongoing Osun governorship primary unless he personally withdraws.
Turaki noted that while Adeleke has the constitutional right to leave the party, the PDP’s strength lies with its members, not individual officeholders. He argued that in states where governors defected in the past, the majority of PDP supporters remained with the party.
He confirmed that the NWC had approved the congresses that produced ad-hoc delegates in Osun and that the primary election was proceeding peacefully. The committee also reviewed preparations for the upcoming local government election in Anambra, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness.
On former PDP governors recently nominated by President Bola Tinubu for non-career ministerial roles, Turaki said none had formally notified the party of their appointments.
Addressing national security concerns, Turaki urged the federal government to urgently review Nigeria’s security architecture, stressing the need for better protection of citizens and greater involvement of governors in state-level security operations.
