United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has launched an instant digital account opening platform aimed at making banking faster, more accessible, and truly borderless for customers across Africa and in the diaspora.
The platform allows prospective customers to start and complete the account opening process entirely online, removing the need for paperwork or initial visits to a physical branch. The initiative further strengthens UBA’s position in digital banking and financial inclusion across the continent.

With the new system, customers can begin their onboarding journey via the web by selecting their preferred language and country. The platform is designed to work seamlessly across computers, tablets, and smartphones, offering a consistent and user-friendly experience.
The service supports both Naira and Diaspora account openings and provides multiple language options in line with UBA’s pan-African presence and diverse customer base.

In line with global best practices, the platform is fully compliant with relevant data protection and privacy regulations, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This ensures strong data security, enhanced customer confidence, and regulatory compliance for both local and international customers.
Unlike traditional bank onboarding processes that require physical documentation, branch visits, and in-person biometric capture, the new platform enables customers to complete digital KYC, upload required documents, enroll on UBA’s digital channels, and receive their account details instantly.

The platform combines the speed and convenience commonly associated with fintech services with the security, regulatory depth, and reliability of a leading African financial institution.
To open an account, customers visit aop.ubagroup.com, select the savings account option, enter their BVN, complete facial verification, confirm the one-time password sent to their registered phone number, provide personal details, upload required documents, add a digital signature, and receive an account number immediately.

Group Head, Retail and Digital Banking, Shamsideen Fashola, said the launch reflects UBA’s commitment to using technology to expand access to financial services while maintaining compliance and security.
He noted that the platform removes long-standing barriers to account opening and enables customers, both within Africa and abroad, to open accounts in minutes through a fully digital process.

Also speaking, Group Head, Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communication, Alero Ladipo, said the platform was developed to meet growing customer expectations for speed, convenience, and regulatory compliance.
She added that the solution blends advanced digital onboarding with strong privacy and regulatory standards, ensuring a seamless experience that aligns with global best practices.
UBA operates in 20 African countries as well as the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates. The bank provides retail, commercial, and institutional banking services and remains a major player in financial inclusion and technology-driven banking across Africa.
