A Senior Magistrates’ Court in Kano on Friday, sentenced a 25-year-old unemployed man, Abdulsamad Lukman, for extortion.
Lukman, who lives in Tudun Murtala Quarters Kano, pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and extortion.
Senior Magistrate, Mrs Binta Ahmad-Mohammad, also ordered Lukman to pay a fine of N10,000.
Ahmad-Mohammad also ordered the defendant to pay back the N42,000 cash to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Elias Ekainu informed the court that the convict committed the offence on July 13 at Tudun Wada Quarters Kano.
He said that the convict armed with a sharp knife, extorted the complainant on his way home to the Tudun Murtala Quarters.
The offence , he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 97 and 292 of the Penal Code.
