Sowore, who arrived at the university gate in the afternoon, was denied entry by campus security officials said to be acting on the instructions of the university management.
The management of the University of Abuja on Monday stopped human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, from entering the institution’s campus, where he had been scheduled to address students at a programme organised by the Students’ Union.
Sowore, who arrived at the university gate in the afternoon, was denied entry by campus security officials said to be acting on the instructions of the university management.

In a live broadcast on his Facebook page monitored by SaharaReporters, Sowore said, “We are here at the gate of University of Abuja to attend a programme organised by the Students’ Union but we were denied entrance by the school security personnel.”
Expressing disappointment, the activist said, “Nigerian universities are finished. I can’t imagine this would happen. Meanwhile, you allowed all these thieves to come here all the time — ministers, heads of parastatals. But you can’t allow intellectualism to take place in the university.”
Sowore, who remained at the gate, described the incident as a shameful attempt to stifle free speech and student engagement.
The activist was seen sitting on the ground near the locked gate, engaging with student leaders who came out to meet him and apologise for the action of the university authorities.

Shortly afterward, Sowore left the scene to intervene in another human rights matter — the detention of Samuel Ojoegwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of actress Regina Daniels.
According to Sowore, Sammy West was remanded in Keffi Prison on Friday after a family dispute allegedly engineered by APC Senator Ned Nwoko, Regina Daniels’ estranged husband.
Sowore was later seen at the Magistrate Court in Dutse, Abuja, where he joined efforts to secure the young man’s release, vowing to continue defending victims of abuse of power and injustice across Nigeria.

Recall that human rights lawyers led by Barrister Marshal Abubakar have secured the bail of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, who was allegedly detained on the orders of Senator Ned Nwoko.
The development was confirmed on Monday by former presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, who said the legal team had succeeded in obtaining bail for Ojeogwu, with the process currently being perfected.
According to Sowore, Ojeogwu’s detention was carried out by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, allegedly acting under the influence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) whom he described as crooked.
Human rights lawyers led by Barrister Marshal D F Abubakar have secured the bail of Regina Daniels’ brother, Samuel Ojeogwu, also known as Sammy West, who was imprisoned by what Sowore described as the crooked Nigeria Police Force. He added that the bail process is being perfected.

SaharaReporters previously reported that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command had arraigned Samuel before a court in Abuja over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, intimidation, and theft.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement last week Friday, confirming that the charges followed a petition received by the FCT Metro Area Command on October 28, 2025, against Ojeogwu and three others.
