The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for July 24, 2025, in Abuja. This was confirmed by the party’s Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, following a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on Monday in the Federal Capital Territory.
Fuanter emphasized the importance of the NEC in the party’s decision-making hierarchy. “The NEC is the highest decision-making body of the party. Therefore, any decisions we take now—including the endorsement of an acting National Chairman—must be ratified by the NEC,” he stated.
He further noted that the NEC meeting could also consider nominations for a new substantive chairman, subject to final approval at the party’s national convention.
“The proposed date for the NEC meeting is July 24, and it will be held at the APC national headquarters,” Fuanter added.
Ganduje Resignation and Leadership Changes
Fuanter confirmed that the NWC deliberated extensively on recent political developments, particularly the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman over the weekend due to health concerns.
“The National Working Committee formally accepted Dr. Ganduje’s resignation and wished him a speedy recovery and a restful period to focus on his health,” he said.
In accordance with the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, has been appointed and endorsed by the NWC as the Acting National Chairman.
“Our constitution states that if the National Chairman steps down, the Deputy National Chairman from the same geopolitical zone shall assume the role in acting capacity. Accordingly, Dalori has been endorsed to fill that position,” Fuanter explained.
Preparations for Bye-Elections and Congresses
Fuanter also disclosed that the NWC discussed preparations for upcoming bye-elections in states where legislative seats have become vacant due to death or resignation.
“We are making preparations to ensure smooth conduct of these bye-elections,” he said.
Additionally, he noted that plans are underway for the party’s ward, local government, and state congresses.
“We’ve mapped out our strategies and will announce detailed timelines soon,” Fuanter concluded.
