US Lawmaker Moore Insists On Christian Genocide In Nigeria, Commends Trump For Choosing Him To Lead Investigation

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Moore described Nigeria as the most dangerous place in the world for Christians.

A member of the United States House of Representatives, Rep. Riley Moore, has further justified the US allegation of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, claiming that an average of 35 Christians are killed every day in the country.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Moore described Nigeria as the most dangerous place in the world for Christians.

“Nigeria is the most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian. 50,000–100,000 of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been martyred since 2009 in Nigeria. 7,000 have been murdered this year alone. That’s 35 Christians murdered per day,” Moore wrote.

The lawmaker, who thanked US President Donald Trump for taking diplomatic action against Nigeria, added, “Thank you, @POTUS, for designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern to end this bloodshed, and for tasking me to lead this investigation in the House. Thank you, @CatholicArena, for helping to shed light on this genocide.”

A Catholic media outlet, Catholic Arena, echoed Moore’s concerns in a series of posts on Monday, also describing Nigeria as one of the most dangerous places on earth in which a person can be a Christian. Catholic Arena noted that Nigeria, which it described as Africa’s most populous country with over 234 million people, has become infamous for religious persecution and mass killings of Christians.

“The most populous country in Africa is Nigeria, with 234 million people. Yet, in the past few years, it has become infamous for something else. Nigeria is now one of the most dangerous places on earth in which a person can be a Christian,” the post read.

“The modern state of Nigeria was created by the British in the 20th century, bringing together a wide variety of tribes who only had the commonality of having been within the confines of British control. The country is roughly half Muslim and half Christian. The scale of violence in Nigeria is mind-boggling.”

According to Catholic Arena, data from the Open Doors 2025 World Watch List indicated that 3,100 Christians were killed during the reporting period, accounting for 69% of all faith-related murders globally.

Catholic Arena identified Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as the main perpetrators of attacks in Nigeria’s North and Middle Belt, “both seeking to impose strict Sharia Law.”

“The Open Doors 2025 Watch List reports 3,100 Christians killed during that reporting period, 69% of all global faith-related murders taking place there. The majority of this violence takes place in Nigeria’s North and Middle Belt. Boko Haram and ISWAP are two of the main perpetrators, with both seeking to impose strict Sharia Law.

“In 2014, Boko Haram kidnapped 276 mostly Christian Chibok girls. Many of those who minimize or even outright deny the situation of Christians there do so because of the tribal and agricultural aspects of the violence. Fulani herdsmen are in part motivated by taking land, but they disproportionately attack Christians and burn churches.”

Catholic Arena cited several individual tragedies, including that of Deborah Samuel, a 19-year-old student lynched for being Christian by a mob who recorded her killing and still celebrate it, and Fr. Isaac Achi, a faithful priest who survived many repeated attacks only to be burned alive when terrorists firebombed his church.

“Some of the violence in Nigeria is on a par with persecution in the early church. Deborah Samuel was a 19-year-old student, lynched for being Christian by a mob who recorded her killing and still celebrate it,” it stated.

“They walked free from court. Fr. Isaac Achi was a faithful priest who survived many repeated attacks only to be burned alive when terrorists firebombed his church.”

Another case mentioned was that of Seminarian Na’aman Danlami, a 25-year-old Catholic student who was kidnapped and executed, set apart and killed by the kidnappers because he was a Christian.

Since the 1990s, 12 northern Nigerian states have reportedly enforced Sharia Law, which Catholic Arena said “causes Christians to be persecuted and for converts to face the threat of death.”

“Seminarian Na’aman Danlami was a 25-year-old Catholic student who was kidnapped and executed. He was set apart and killed by the kidnappers because he was a Christian,” Catholic Arena wrote.

It further noted that 2,830 Christians were kidnapped according to the latest figures from Open Doors, and that Leah Sharibu, abducted by ISWAP in 2018, remains in captivity because she refuses to convert to Islam.

“Since the 1990s, 12 states in Northern Nigeria have enforced Sharia Law. This causes Christians to be persecuted and for converts to face the threat of death. The map is a mirror of areas where Christians are persecuted. 2,830 Christians were kidnapped according to the most recent statistics available from Open Doors. Leah Sharibu, a young woman kidnapped by ISWAP in 2018, remains in captivity because she refuses to convert to Islam.”

Catholic Arena accused the Nigerian government of negligence and complicity, alleging that it “is at best useless at stopping these or at worst complicit.”

“The Nigerian government is at best useless at stopping these or at worst complicit. In 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari refused to call off a public event with his government only hours after the Pentecost Terror Attack and was pictured repeatedly laughing and grinning,” it stated.
