US Lawmaker Calls for Pardon of Nigerian Farmer on Death Row
U.S. Representative Riley Moore has urged the Nigerian government to pardon Sunday Jackson, a farmer sentenced to death for killing an assailant while defending himself.
Speaking at a House of Representatives hearing on Nigeria’s redesignation as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), Moore described Jackson’s conviction as unjust.
He stated that Jackson acted in self-defense against an attacker, and questioned the fairness of imposing the death penalty on someone protecting their own life.
Moore emphasized the need for Nigeria to review the case, highlighting concerns over justice and human rights.
