The Defence Headquarters has said the recent airstrikes in North-West Nigeria reflect the Federal Government’s determination, alongside its allies, to confront terrorism.
According to the DHQ, the operation was carried out jointly by the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the United States, following credible intelligence on foreign ISIS-linked elements operating in the region. The strikes were designed to weaken the terrorists’ operational capacity while minimising collateral damage.

The military said the action was approved by the appropriate authorities and forms part of sustained efforts to eliminate terrorists and criminal groups threatening national security. It added that the operation underscores Nigeria’s resolve, working with strategic international partners, to prevent transnational terrorists and foreign fighters from establishing a foothold in the country.

The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property and to supporting joint and international security efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace across Nigeria.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that Nigeria remains engaged in structured security and intelligence cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to address terrorism and violent extremism.

The ministry said such collaboration is guided by international law, respect for sovereignty, and the protection of civilians, stressing that terrorism against any group is unacceptable and contrary to Nigeria’s values.
