VIETNAM TO CUT DOMESTIC FLIGHTS OVER JET FUEL SHORTAGE

Vietnam’s national airline will suspend 23 domestic flights per week starting next month due to limited jet fuel supplies caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the country’s civil aviation authority announced.

The price of jet fuel has surged since the conflict began over three weeks ago, raising concerns about shortages. “Vietnam Airlines plans to temporarily suspend operations on several routes from April 1,” the authority said, adding that major domestic and international routes will continue to operate.

Airlines in Vietnam are also considering fuel surcharges on international flights to cope with rising costs. The government has sought fuel support from countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Algeria, and Japan, and recently signed an oil and gas production deal with Russia.

In the region, Myanmar’s national carrier has also canceled some domestic flights, while United Airlines in the US has scaled back flight capacity in anticipation of rising jet fuel prices.
