Nigeria’s D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, has highlighted key areas that need urgent improvement as the team gears up for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

After a disappointing performance at the qualifying tournament, where Nigeria won only two out of five games, Wakama stressed the importance of stronger starts and better decision-making under pressure.

“We need to start games better, make smarter choices in crucial moments, and keep improving,” she said. She also noted repeated lapses in execution, especially in areas the team had focused on during training.

“We experienced several breakdowns during the tournament, particularly in aspects we had already worked on. Our focus at the beginning of games and maintaining the right energy must improve,” Wakama added.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Berlin from September 4 to 13, with the official draw set for April 21 at Kraftwerk Berlin.
