The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has welcomed the defection of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a major gain for the ruling party.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Igwuruta-Airport Road, a project executed by Fubara, Keyamo used a metaphor to describe the move, saying the APC “set a trap to catch a frog but ended up catching an elephant.”
The minister praised President Bola Tinubu’s strategic leadership, which he said has made the APC increasingly attractive in the South-South region. He welcomed Governor Fubara into the party, calling it a “big family” and “the largest in Africa,” and personally witnessed the presentation of his APC membership card.

Keyamo said:
“I warmly welcome our latest addition to the APC. We set a trap to catch a frog, but we caught an elephant in the person of Sir Siminalayi Fubara. As a true son of the South-South, I must thank Mr. President for all he has done for Rivers State and the region. Things have never been this good for the South-South. From 2015 until now, the APC has made unprecedented progress in the region.”
He noted that historically, Rivers State has aligned with the federal government for the benefit of its citizens, and commended President Tinubu’s bold reforms that have drawn many leaders into the APC fold.

Keyamo also lauded Fubara for addressing a long-standing challenge in the aviation sector with the Igwuruta-Airport Road project. He said the road, which connects the Port Harcourt International Airport to the city, had been in poor condition for years and that the new construction would leave a positive impression on visitors.
“The road leading to the Port Harcourt Airport has always been a challenge. With this project, Governor Fubara has solved one of the biggest headaches for the aviation sector. Now, anyone arriving at the airport will be welcomed with a proper road and a good impression of the city,” Keyamo added.

Governor Fubara’s defection follows a similar move by Rivers State Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, and sixteen other members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who also joined the APC.
