Wike Criticizes Turaki as Police Seal PDP Secretariat in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday condemned the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, for seeking foreign intervention in Nigeria’s political affairs.

This came as the police sealed the PDP national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, amid an ongoing violent leadership dispute within the party. Officers mounted barbed-wire barricades at the main entrance, citing instructions “from above,” though no further details were provided.

While receiving board members of the South-South Development Commission, Wike criticized Turaki for allegedly undermining national security and disregarding court rulings, describing his actions as an act of impunity. Turaki had called on US President Donald Trump and other advanced democracies to “save Nigeria’s democracy” following a confrontation between rival PDP factions. He also alleged threats to democracy and Christian communities in the country.

Wike said Turaki’s statements were reckless, questioning the logic of inviting foreign leaders to intervene in domestic political disputes. He further asked why Turaki had not been invited by security agencies for questioning regarding his remarks.
