Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the appeal filed by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not affect plans to hold the party’s national convention.
The faction, led by Kabiru Turaki, had approached the Supreme Court seeking to stop the convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
The dispute stems from an earlier convention held in November 2025 in Ibadan, where Turaki emerged as chairman under a PDP leadership backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed. However, the Court of Appeal in Abuja later nullified that convention, citing violations of guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Following the ruling, the Wike-backed faction moved to organise a fresh convention.
Speaking after inspecting the venue in Abuja, Wike maintained that the legal action would not derail the process.
“The PDP is a large party. The umbrella is wide enough to accommodate everyone,” he said. “There will always be disagreements, but what matters most is the overall interest of the party.”

He added that positions within the party had already been zoned, with the presidency allocated to the South and the chairmanship to the North, a move he said would ease tensions and ensure a smoother process.
Wike stressed that the convention would go ahead as planned, while reconciliation efforts among aggrieved members would continue.
Meanwhile, Turaki’s camp has indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue with the Wike faction, as both sides work toward presenting a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections

I appreciate your effort.
