The suspended National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, asking the commission to recognise Mohammed Abdulrahman as the Acting National Chairman of the party.

The PDP crisis deepened on Monday when Abdulrahman, accompanied by Anyanwu and his supporters, took over the office of National Chairman Umar Damagum at the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Abuja.
Last week, Damagum’s National Working Committee (NWC) suspended Anyanwu, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, and National Organising Secretary Umar Bature for alleged anti-party activities. In retaliation, the Anyanwu-led faction announced Damagum’s suspension and appointed Abdulrahman, the North Central Vice Chairman, as Acting National Chairman.

Anyanwu, a close ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, claims his suspension was politically motivated.
In a letter dated November 3, 2025, Anyanwu told INEC that Abdulrahman’s appointment followed a November 1 NWC meeting and was in line with the party’s constitution, urging the commission to recognise him.

Meanwhile, the PDP’s planned national convention for November 15–16 faces uncertainty after a Federal High Court ruling halted preparations, with the party expected to appeal.
