Former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not need to campaign in Kogi for the 2027 elections, citing the absence of opposition in the state. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kogi, Bello described the state as an APC stronghold with overwhelming support for Tinubu.
“Your Excellency, Mr. President, you don’t need to come to Kogi to campaign in 2027. There’s no opposition here,” Bello said, adding that Tinubu is a leader for all Nigerians to rally behind, even beyond his potential second term.
Bello praised Tinubu’s leadership, highlighting improvements in security, infrastructure, and increased federal allocations to states. He expressed gratitude for the president’s contributions to Kogi, including appointments and efforts to combat insecurity.
Bello, who governed Kogi from 2016 to 2024, endorsed Tinubu and current Kogi Governor Usman Ododo for re-election. He noted that several APC figures, including Niger State Governor Umar Bago, have also declared support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. Bago, who proclaimed himself the director-general of Tinubu’s campaign, emphasized the importance of respecting Nigeria’s unwritten power rotation principle.
