The All Progressives Congress in Ward 4, Sabo, Sagamu, has insisted that the indefinite suspension of former Ogun State governor and Ogun East senator, Gbenga Daniel, remains in effect. The ward executives maintained that the National Working Committee has no authority to overturn the decision.

Ward Secretary Aduroja Oluwole, supported by Ward Chairman Adebayo Ismail and other party members, said the suspension was carried out in line with the party’s constitution following Daniel’s alleged refusal to appear before an investigative panel. The executives argued that while the NWC may suspend members, it cannot nullify disciplinary actions taken at the ward, local government, state, or zonal levels.

Aduroja noted that the suspension is only subject to appeal as stated in Article 21 of the party’s constitution and not subject to NWC review. He described the NWC’s directive to reverse the suspension as baseless and contrary to party rules.
He added that Daniel’s rights and privileges remain halted since he has not challenged the suspension through the proper channels.

The ward accused Daniel of engaging in anti-party activities during the last general elections and attempting to obstruct proceedings at the Election Petition Tribunal. They reaffirmed that the suspension stands and said they remain committed to discipline and due process in the APC.

Daniel’s spokesperson, Steve Oliyide, denied all allegations, describing the suspension as politically motivated and orchestrated by Governor Dapo Abiodun to block Daniel’s chances in the 2027 senatorial race. He argued that Daniel supported the party during the Remo by-election and contributed financially despite being sidelined by state leaders.

Oliyide also questioned the legitimacy of the suspension, insisting Daniel is not registered in Ward 4 but in Isote Ward 12, making the action improper. He claimed the move is tied to long-standing political tensions since Daniel showed interest in the senatorial ticket in 2022.
He further recalled that Daniel helped mobilise support for Abiodun’s 2019 governorship win despite being a PDP member at the time.
