Former Governor of Kaduna State and ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a sharp rebuttal to a social media critic who declared his political career “finished,” insisting that his political voice remains very much alive and will be heard louder in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
The Social Media Challenge
The exchange began when a user identified as Eureka with the handle @Archimeokey took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock El-Rufai’s perceived silence on national issues.
In the tweet, Eureka alleged that the outspoken former governor had been reduced to hiding behind the opinions and writings of others, accusing him of losing his once bold and confrontational voice.
“El-Rufai is gone. He is finished politically. He now hides behind other people’s ink to write and their mouths to talk. The big-mouthed El-Rufai can’t talk anymore,” the user posted.
El-Rufai’s Response
In a swift and pointed reply, El-Rufai told Eureka to “save this tweet” for March 1, 2027, the day after the next presidential election, promising that his political influence and voice would prove stronger than ever.
“In your dreams… when the time comes for me to speak, you will eat your words. Save this tweet, and check on 1st March, 2027 in sha Allah,” El-Rufai fired back.
The former governor hinted that his political activities and public commentary would resume in force at a decisive moment in the election cycle, suggesting that his current low public profile is a strategic choice rather than a retreat.
From APC Ally to Outspoken Critic
El-Rufai, who was instrumental in the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023, has since become a fierce critic of the administration. His fallout with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) intensified after the Senate refused to confirm his ministerial nomination, citing unresolved security concerns.
In March 2025, he formally announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), explaining that his values no longer aligned with the direction of the APC.
A New Political Alliance for 2027
Since leaving the APC, El-Rufai has joined forces with other high-profile politicians, including
- Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi – Former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation
- Atiku Abubakar – Former Vice President of Nigeria
- Several other opposition figures
This coalition, which operates under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) political alliance, is openly working towards removing President Tinubu from office through the ballot in 2027.
Looking Ahead
Political analysts note that El-Rufai’s decision to delay his full re-entry into national political debates may be part of a calculated strategy aimed at maximizing impact during the campaign season.
For now, his message to critics is clear: do not mistake silence for defeat.
Whether his words on X will translate into political resurgence in 2027 remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: El-Rufai has promised to make his next move loud enough for all to hear.
