The Lagos State Government has rolled out a 24-hour traffic management and enforcement operation to ease congestion and maintain order across major roads ahead of the festive season.

The initiative, tagged Operation Ember Months Stability, was announced by the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki. He said the operation aims to ensure free vehicular movement, enhance public safety, and sustain environmental order, particularly in busy corridors and nightlife zones.
According to LASTMA, personnel have been stationed on key routes, including Ikorodu Road, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Lekki-Epe Corridor, and Agege Motor Road. The officers are tasked with managing traffic round the clock, discouraging road indiscipline, and promoting safety among motorists.
The operation is backed by a multi-agency enforcement task force coordinated by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa. The team includes officials from KAI, LAMATA, LAWMA, the Nigeria Police, and the Public Works Corporation.

Bakare-Oki disclosed that over 250 illegal shanties and derelict vehicles had already been cleared in Apapa, Ijora, and Costain areas. A dummy firearm and dangerous weapons were reportedly found during the cleanup, reinforcing the state’s renewed focus on public safety.
He added that commercial bus operators previously operating illegally have been relocated to designated parks, while LAMATA will integrate reclaimed spaces into the city’s transit network.
The LASTMA boss reaffirmed the state’s commitment to keeping roads safe, orderly, and free-flowing during the Yuletide and beyond.
