The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of 176 residents who were abducted during the February 3, 2026, attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Wednesday, the government described the victims’ freedom as a major milestone in efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the affected communities.
The state also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and everyone who contributed to the successful operation.
“Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful,” the statement read.
The victims were kidnapped after heavily armed attackers, believed to be linked to Boko Haram, invaded the rural communities on motorcycles in a coordinated assault that lasted several hours.
The attack was one of the worst security incidents recorded in Kwara State, with reports indicating that more than 200 people were killed. Many others were injured, while homes and businesses were destroyed, forcing residents to flee the area.
Local vigilante members who tried to defend the communities were reportedly overpowered, with some allegedly trapped and burnt inside their operational base.
Authorities have yet to reveal how the victims regained their freedom or whether any ransom was paid for their release.
