As the 2027 general elections draw closer, leaders and residents of the Badagry division in Lagos State have called on President Bola Tinubu to support the zoning of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket to their region.
The appeal, made through the Concerned People of Badagry Forum, highlights the longstanding marginalisation of the division in the political leadership of the state. According to the group, despite decades of loyalty to the APC and commitment to the Lagos development agenda, Badagry has yet to produce a governor.
Speaking to Saturday PUNCH, APC chieftain and forum leader, Saka Shenayon, emphasized the region’s unwavering support for both the party and President Tinubu, noting that the time had come for Badagry to be considered for the highest political office in the state.
“We’ve been consistent in our loyalty to the APC and the Lagos project. It’s only fair that our division is given the opportunity to produce the next governor,” Shenayon said. “We are preparing to formally meet with President Tinubu to present our case and appeal for his support.”
Shenayon assured that the division would present a credible and competent candidate, capable of continuing the legacy of good governance in Lagos.
In a joint statement signed by Shenayon and other prominent Badagry leaders—Moses Ogunbiyi, Sejuro Samuel, Rofeequat Onabamiro, Kamoru Ajape, and Babatunde Olaide-Mesewaku—the group reiterated the need for equity and inclusion.
“We believe that zoning the governorship ticket to Badagry is a matter of fairness and recognition of our contributions to the state’s progress,” the statement read.
The group urged the APC leadership at both state and national levels to consider their request in the spirit of justice and party unity.
