2027: FOUR KANO REPS DUMP NNPP FOR ADC

Defections continue to reshape the political landscape in the National Assembly, with six members of the House of Representatives announcing new party alignments during plenary on Wednesday.

Four lawmakers from Kano State—Sani Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Muktar Zakari (Tarauni), Umar Datti (Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam), and Abdulhakeem Ado (Wudil/Garko)—dumped the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, formally read their defection letters on the floor of the chamber.

In a related development, Kabiru Amadu, popularly known as Maipalace, representing Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency in Zamfara State, and Emeka Chinedu of Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte in Imo State, also defected—moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers attributed their decisions to ongoing internal crises within their former parties.

The latest moves add to a growing wave of defections ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC in particular gaining momentum. Just a day earlier, three lawmakers—Thaddeus Attah (Eti-Osa, Lagos), Usman Zubairu (Kaduna), and Sani Noma (Kebbi)—also switched parties, joining the ADC from the Labour Party (LP) and APC.

Political analysts say the trend reflects increasing realignments as politicians position themselves for future contests.
