2027: WIKE’S-LED OYO PDP FACTION DEBUNKS MAKINDE’S CONSENSUS PARTY’S CANDIDATES LIST

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disowned a reported consensus list of aspirants allegedly linked to Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group described the list as fake, unauthorised, and inconsistent with the party’s established internal procedures.

In a statement signed by its factional chairman, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso, and secretary, Dr. Abiola Olaonipekun, the group insisted that no consensus arrangement had been approved or discussed within its structure.

It stressed that any such list circulating in the public space did not originate from the party and should be disregarded by members and stakeholders.

“The attention of the party has been drawn to reports suggesting that certain individuals have been endorsed through a consensus arrangement for the 2027 general elections. We wish to state clearly that the party is neither aware of nor involved in any such process,” the statement read.

The faction reaffirmed its commitment to due process, transparency, and internal democracy, adding that candidate selection would strictly follow party guidelines.

It also announced that the sale of nomination forms for aspirants seeking elective positions under the PDP platform will begin on Monday, April 20, 2026. According to the group, this marks the official commencement of a structured and competitive selection process.

Reaffirming loyalty to former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, the faction said no individual or group has the authority to impose candidates outside recognised party structures.

It warned against attempts to mislead members or create internal confusion, adding that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found spreading false information.

The group urged members to remain calm and focused, noting that the unfolding process is aimed at producing credible candidates capable of strengthening the party’s chances in 2027.

With the sale of forms set to begin, the faction said the PDP in Oyo State is entering a new phase of what it described as a more open and competitive path toward the next general elections.
