Speaking during an interview on TVC, Okpebholo stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully prepared to deliver a landslide win for the president. He insisted that the people of Edo are eager to reward Tinubu with their votes.
According to him, support for the president in the state is so widespread that it even influences his own political acceptance.

“If you vote for me, you will definitely vote for President Tinubu first,” he said. “We promised 3.5 million votes, and we are serious about it. When I ask everyone to wear Asiwaju’s cap, it’s because anyone who doesn’t love Asiwaju cannot love me.”

The governor described Tinubu as a father figure who enjoys massive popularity across Edo State, adding that the 2027 results would clearly reflect this support. He went as far as declaring that he would step down if Tinubu fails to win.
“Everybody is for Asiwaju. The people will show appreciation with their votes. If he doesn’t win here, I will resign. My politics is grassroots-driven, not thuggery,” he added.

Okpebholo also criticized his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, claiming that Obaseki’s performance has distanced him from the people.
“Let him come to Edo. His records will determine whether he should return or not. No child or mother on the street will pray for Obaseki,” he said.

Okpebholo, who previously served as a senator, became governor in November 2024 under the APC.
