INSECURITY IN NIGERIA WILL BE RESOLVED IN SIX MONTHS WITH STATE POLICE – GANI ADAMS

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has asserted that Nigeria’s worsening insecurity could be significantly reduced within six months if the Federal Government approves the creation of state police.

Adams made the remark on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he noted that support for state policing has reached an unprecedented level across the country. He said leaders from all six geopolitical zones—including Northern governors and traditional rulers—now back the proposal.

“For the first time, there is a nationwide consensus on state police,” he said. “If the National Assembly passes the legislation and the president signs it, Nigeria’s security challenges can be addressed within six months.”

He highlighted the efforts of the Amotekun Corps in the South-West but stressed that they lack the advanced weapons required to confront heavily armed criminal groups effectively.

Southern governors recently reaffirmed that state police is a critical component of achieving true federalism and strengthening security at the community level. Adams aligned himself with their position, insisting that genuine patriots should not oppose the initiative.

“I fully support the Southern governors. State police is essential for true federalism,” he stated. “Given the realities we face, anyone who genuinely wants the best for Nigeria must agree.”

While acknowledging fears that governors might misuse state police for political purposes, Adams maintained that safeguarding lives and property must take priority in the national debate.
