Hafsat Yusuf, the woman who gave birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, has died.
Her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed that she passed away around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, just hours after delivering the babies. He did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The quintuplets—three boys and two girls—are all alive and currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
Hafsat had delivered the babies through a Caesarean section at about 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Her husband, a tricycle rider, had earlier expressed joy over the successful delivery, noting that it was her ninth childbirth.
He also said medical staff were giving the newborns special attention to ensure their survival and well-being.
The Kano State Government had earlier announced that it would take full responsibility for the babies’ medical care, as part of efforts to improve maternal and child health and reduce mortality rates.
