President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the newly remodelled Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, within Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos.

The facility, which comprises 36 schools, is regarded as the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan West Africa.

The President, who was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was joined by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top government officials.

During the visit, the President also inaugurated the newly upgraded Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle, which now features 19 mini football pitches and has been renamed in his honour. In addition, he virtually commissioned the Fresh Food Industrial Hub located in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.

In his remarks, Tinubu praised the Lagos State Government for its strides in education, infrastructure development, and empowerment initiatives, describing the projects as impactful investments in the future.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his address, described the transformation of the Tolu Schools Complex as a bold and forward-thinking initiative designed to meet the needs of 21st-century learners. He urged students, teachers, and parents to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Lagos State Special Committee on the Rehabilitation of Public Schools, Hakeem Smith, acknowledged the challenges faced during the project but said the determination to deliver a world-class learning environment made the difference.

The upgraded complex caters to about 21,000 students across basic, junior, and senior secondary levels. It includes modern features such as ICT hubs, a central laboratory, a vocational centre, sports facilities, a health centre, and even a fire station. Special provisions were also made for students with disabilities, including dedicated blocks equipped with solar-powered lifts.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, Minister of Education Tunji Alausa, Minister of Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, as well as other government officials from across the country.

The commissioning marks another milestone in Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to improve public education and infrastructure for its growing population.
